The Giant Dipper Roller Coaster on the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is celebrating 95 years.
The ride was originally built in 1924 in just 47 days at a cost of $50,000. According to the Boardwalk, the Giant Dipper is now the fifth oldest coaster in the U.S., continuously operating in its original location.
To celebrate the birthday, the Beach Boardwalk has created a contest. People have until August 16th to submit their best Giant Dipper artwork, this can include photos, sculptures, paintings, and more.
The grand prize is an Apple MacBook Pro, Bose Speakers and a behind the scenes tour of the boardwalk.
