The attorney for Rashel Brandon has filed a number of motions because he feels that the charges against her are excessive. Nurse Rashel Brandon, former neurosurgeon James Kohut, and his girlfriend Emily Stephens, are accused of molesting, and facilitating sexual violence among Brandon’s and Stephens children. All 3 adults have been incarcerated in Santa Cruz County Jail since they were arrested in 2017.
Brandon’s attorney is seeking the dismissal of felonies that include: oral copulation of a child younger than 10 years-old, aggravated assault against a child, and attempted aggravated assault on a child involving sodomy.
Among other issues, the defense contests that the adults did not commit any crimes when the children in their care were sexually violated by another child in their care.
