As the homeless encampment near the gateway plaza gets ready to close… the city of Santa Cruz is leaning on the local religious community to host the homeless in cars.
“The association of faith communities” was officially launched yesterday and will implement the new “safe-spaces parking program” and receive short term seed funding.
The program allows people to camp in their cars in the parking lots of various churches around Santa Cruz county.
Participants must have registered and insured vehicle and undergo a background check.
