UCSC Student Allegedly Created Drug Purchase App 02-20-19 15:20 DC

An 18-year-old UC Santa Cruz student was indicted Tuesday on federal charges connected to an alleged iPhone app he created for selling cocaine and methamphetamine.

The indictment claims Colin Riley Howard developed an app called “banana plug” that offered the drugs for sale. The app’s name appears to be a play on the school’s banana slug mascot.

The crimes took place last November, during which an undercover agent reportedly made four drug purchases. Howard was arrested on February 15th and is due back in court on the 22nd. He faces up to 20-years in jail and millions in fines if convicted.
