Local Newts 2/18/19 Ci 8a

A six mile stretch of alma bridge road is proving deadly for the california newt.

A local biologist documented nearly 3-thousand newt deaths since november on the road near lexington reservoir.

The orange bellied newts are apparently getting smashed by speeding cars… because the newts use that section of road as a migration route as it happens to be next to a stream.

Local environmental groups are urging the Santa Clara county board of supervisors to take action to protect the newt.
