PG&E Could Broaden Wildfire Prevention Black-Outs 12/17/18 07:28 DC

PG&E may expand its policy regarding intentional power outages used to prevent wildfires. A company official Friday told a Public Utilities Commission meeting that the program could be expanded to include the kind of high-voltage lines implicated in possibly causing the Camp Fire.

The new policy could include power lines operating at 115,000 votes or more. Company officials said cutting power to the transmission lines could possibly impact millions of people. Right now, only lower voltage local lines can be shut off to prevent possible wildland fires.
