Santa Barbara Co Source of Tainted Romaine 12-13-18 15:15 DC

Federal disease detectives say they finally know where the E. coli tainted romaine lettuce was grown. The source was a farm located in Santa Barbara County.

The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control say they have traced the tainted E. coli lettuce reported in November to the Adam Brothers Family Farm in Santa Barbara County.

Investigators said the bacteria was found in sediment from a water reservoir used for irrigation at the farm.

There have been 59 cases of illness reported 15 states that are being blamed on the E. coli outbreak. There have been no deaths and no additional cases reported since mid-November.

But the agencies warn the outbreak may not be over, so consumers should only purchase romaine lettuce labeled with where it was grown. Lettuce from Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Barbara counties should remain off the dining table.
