During the past two weeks, CAL FIRE San Mateo-Santa Cruz fire resources have had 25 vegetation fire responses.
Three of these vegetation fires burned 21 acres, prompting evacuations and injuring four firefighters.
Fire investigators from the CAL FIRE San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit have determined these three fires to have originated from illegal campsites.
In September, CALFIRE banned all outdoor burning in San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties. All campfires, open pit fires, open pit cooking fires, warming fires and ceremonial burns are prohibited. CAL FIRE also reminds the public that if they are found responsible for causing a fire, they could face criminal or civil penalties.
