After years of attempts. Funding issues and even some controversy, the groundbreaking for a new permanent library in Capitola will take place later this morning. It was 1981 when the city last had a library in a permanent location. Friends of the Library hope a new library will be built as early as winter 2019.
The almost 12,000-square-foot library is expected to cost about $12-million to construct. The library friend’s group is seeking to raise $350,000 for the project.
The groundbreaking will take place at 11 a.m. today at 2000 Wharf Road in Capitola and the community is invited to attend.
