Four years after a big rig crash on Highway 17 killed a 25-year-old Santa Cruz man, a proposal that might have prevented the accident is now California law.
Known as “Daniel’s Law” after the victim, Daniel McGuire, the new law requires commercial truck drivers to have behind-the-wheel training before venturing out onto California’s roads.
The driver involved in the accident had been on the job for less than three months, had no behind-the-wheel training and had never driven Highway 17.
