Is Downtown Parking Really Needed? 09-13-18 15:30 DC

The Campaign for Sustainable Transportation is asking the Santa Cruz City Council to evaluate the impact of raising parking prices before deciding to build the proposal library and 600-space parking lot downtown. Campaign Chair Rick Longinotti says the city’s former lead parking consultant says the price increase might reduce parking demand enough to make the new lot unnecessary.

The city is paying consultant Nelson\Nygard $100-thousand dollars for a parking study. Longinotti says the council should ask the firm for a verbal report at a future council meeting.
