Adrian AJ Gonzalez pleaded not guilty for a second time on Monday. Gonzalez was 15 years old when he was charged with murder, kidnapping and rape of 8-year-old Maddy Middleton in 2015. A Santa Cruz Superior Court Judge ordered Gonzalez to be tried as an adult in October. But his attorneys are waiting for an appeal at the state appeals court that could see him tried as a juvenile and put him in a rehabilitation program. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 31 in Santa Cruz.
