Ca Three State Split May Qualify For Ballot 04/17/18 540a Cr

Californians may be able to vote on a plan to split the state into three come this November. Cal 3 would start the process to divide California into “Northern California”, “Southern California” and just “California”. “Northern California” would consist of all the counties north of Merced County. “California” would include Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Monterey and San Benito Counties. The remaining counties would be part of “Southern California”.  The Cal 3 initiative already has six hundred-thousand signatures from residents wanting to see the state split. An initiative only needs 366,000 signatures to appear on the ballot.  The reasoning behind the proposal is that California has gotten to big to be governed correctly. However, even if Cal 3 passes in November, it would still require congressional approval.
