A Monterey county probation officer has been sentenced to spend 1 year in jail, and 5 years on probation. That after 36 year-old Sonia Cano pleaded guilty to fatally striking a man with her car, and the fleeing the scene. She was off-duty when she hit 52 year-old Alan Ellis as he crossed North Main Street in Salinas last December. Cano turned herself in about 3 hours after the fatal accident.
