Although all businesses along Highway 1 are accessible, travelers still cannot drive Highway 1 to get from Big Sur to Cambria, because of the damage done by last spring’s Mud Creek Slide. It’s impacting the Coast Highway from north of Salmon Creek, to south of Gorda. The slide occurred on May 20th, and not only did it completely cover a section of Highway 1, but it also changed the shape of the California Coastline in that area. Cal-Trans hopes to recreate the roadway, and open it to through traffic, sometime late this year.
