A police chase in Watsonville was called off shortly before a fatal crash occurred on Highway 1 near Jensen Road. The 26 year-old driver was declared dead at the scene, and his 30 year-old passenger suffered major injuries in the crash and had to be extricated from the vehicle. A handgun and an assault rifle were tossed out of the vehicle during the chase.
