More cases of Hepatitis A have been reported in Monterey county, and the first death (related to Hepatitis A) was recently reported in Santa Cruz county. That patient was also known to have a number of other medical issues that led to the death. 5 of the 8 hepatitis a cases in Monterey county are judged to be from local transmission, because those patients did not travel outside the area. That’s of particular concern to health officials, who have not yet determined what those patients had in-common.
