The Monterey County Board Of Supervisors is expected to consider whether a spot in Salinas should be re-named. “Confederate Corners” is just off Highway 68, and due to a number of incidents around the country, some local residents feel it would be safer to change the name. Since the area is surrounded by agricultural fields, some people think a good name would be “campesino corners” because ‘campesino’ means ‘farm workers’ in Spanish. Others want a more ambiguous name, while still others would prefer to keep the historic name.
