Food insecurity is pretty prevalent in Santa Cruz county. County officials have reported that 1 in 4 children in the county goes to bed hungry. In honor of International World Food Day, the county has teamed up with Second Harvest Food Bank and U.C.S.C. to get the word out to students about what food resources are available to them. As a result, some people are learning about Cal-Fresh (for the first time). It’s a federal program that gives up to 200 dollars a month to qualified applicants (for food).
