Wildfire In Santa Cruz Mountains     10-17-17  M.W.

(05:45) Santa Cruz County – A wildfire is currently burning in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The fire was first reported about 10:30 last night, with a confirmed structure on fire at 825 Bear Creek Canyon Road.  Flames spread from the home into the trees and vegetation.  Difficult terrain and poor visibility are limiting firefighting efforts. Mandatory evacuations have been issued for:  Bear Creek Canyon Road,  Deer Creek Road,  Ron’s road,  Don’s Road, Lost valley,  Farve Ridge, Oak Ridge and all smaller connecting roadways.  The fire is estimated to be about 125 acres and is moving north towards Las Cumbras.  30 Fire crews from Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito and Santa Clara counties are on scene.  Air support has been requested and will arrive at first light.  Evacuation center has been established at Boulder Creek Elementary at 400 West Lomond Street.
