Confederate Corners Salinas 08/21/17 S.F.

A DEBATE IN SALINAS HAS TAKEN PLACE WHETHER TO RENAME CONFEDERATE CORNERS, A LANDMARK THAT WAS ALSO REFERENCED IN STEINBECK NOVELS.      AFTER THE NATIONAL DEBATE OVER HISTORICAL MONUMENTS, SALINAS COUNTY IS CONSIDERING RENAMING CONFEDERATE CORNERS, WHICH IS NEAR AN OLD BARN WHERE CONFEDERATE VETERANS USED TO SOCIALIZE AFTER THE CIVIL WAR.      THE SITE ATTRACTS TOURISTS AND MANY CITIZENS IN SALINAS DON’T WANT TO RENAME IT.       REGINA MASON, THE PRESIDENT OF NAACP-MONTEREY COUNTY, STATED IT’S IMPORTANT TO RECOGNIZE CONFEDERATE HISTORY AND TO EXAMINE THEIR EXISTENCE IN OUR COMMUNITIES.
