Loma Fire Cause-8/10/17-1749-PMD

Cal Fire has determined the cause of the 2016 Loma Fire.  In a press release yesterday (Thurs) the agency said the blaze that broke out on September 26, 2016 near the area of Casa Loma Road in the Santa Cruz Mountains was started by one of three generators being used by a marijuana cultivation operation. The fire burned approximately 4,474 acres and destroyed 28 structures, including 12 homes. The fire burned for 16 days before being fully contained by firefighters on October 12, 2016. At its peak, 1,968 firefighters battled the fire. The Santa Clara Sheriff’s office is investigating the legality of the cultivators.
