Nearly 300 students in Monterey County took part in the 49th annual Mathletics Math Contest over the weekend, and the overall winner was York High School senior Emma Cushing. Cushing is no stranger to winning awards, as she was chosen as the girl’s scholar-athlete award winner for the Mission Trail Athletic League, and then for the entire Central Coast Section of 137 high schools. The teen was also commended as 1 (of 12) York School students recognized as national merit scholars. Cushing holds a 4.33 gpa, and is active in 3 sports: field hockey, soccer and lacrosse.
