March 29, 2017: Students Graduate from D.A.R.E.

(08:00) Scotts Valley – The Scotts Valley Police Department will honor graduates of the D.A.R.E. (DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION) program during a ceremony tomorrow and next week.   Over 230 students from Baymonte Christian School, Brook Knoll Elementary and Vine Hill Elementary are taking the D.A.R.E. pledge to stay off drugs as they graduate from the ten week D.A.R.E. program.  The students have learned the skills they need to avoid drugs, alcohol and violence. The D.A.R.E. lessons focus on four major areas: providing accurate information about alcohol and drugs, teaching students’ decision making skills, showing them how to resist peer pressure and giving them ideas for alternatives to drug use and violence.  D.A.R.E. began in 1983.  It is now taught in more than 300,000 classrooms in 50 states and 53 countries around the world.
