March 24, 2017: Update: Marilyn Shepherd v. City of Monterey Verdict

(09:50) Monterey – A former Monterey Peninsula Unified School District Superintendent, who sued the City of Monterey over a pothole, lost yesterday.   Marilyn Shepherd filed a lawsuit in 2015 after she fell in a pothole.   Shepherd said she broke her left ankle and sprained her right one while she was on Webster Street. Shepherd sought $750,000 from the city because of suffering she endured.   Shepherd’s husband demanded an additional $50,000, for his own suffering, from witnessing his wife trip in the pothole.   An investigation by the city concluded that the pothole was less than an inch deep.  After deliberating for 30 minutes the jury voted in favor of the City of Monterey and against Shepherd.
