Court Determination 03/22/17 17. 55 RLM

A Santa Cruz county Superior court judge is working to determine whether 17 year-old Adrian Jerry Gonzalez’s probation report will be made public.   He is charged with the murder of Maddy Middleton in July 2015.    The charges against him include a special allegation of lying in wait, which supports the possibility of life imprisonment in adult cases.   Proposition 57 (which passed in 2016) gives the courts the jurisdiction to determine whether, in some cases, a minor can be charged as an adult.  At this time, there is no public record for Gonzalez because he is a juvenile.   The judge is expected to make his ruling at a hearing this Friday afternoon.
