January 16, 2017: Man Convicted of Financial Elder Abuse

(10:00) Monterey – The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office announced that a man was convicted of financial elder abuse and grand theft on Friday.   62 year-old James Kline, of Monterey Peninsula, is a handyman who was doing home repairs in the summer of 2015 for an 87 year-old woman.   It was reported that Kline took the victim to her credit union to open an ATM card.   He then proceeded to unlawfully withdraw more than 2-thousand dollars using the ATM card.   The victim’s son, who was monitoring his mother’s accounts, notified the credit union of the abnormal withdrawals.   Kline is scheduled for sentencing February 24, and faces a maximum of four years in jail.
