(11:50) Gilroy – A Grammy-nominated blues guitarist died on Saturday. John Garcia of Gilroy was a well known blues guitarist who performed with John Lee Hooker and then with his son, John Lee Hooker Jr. Garcia played with musicians such as Paul Simon, B.B. King, Johnny Winter and Bonnie Raitt. Garcia is remembered by many locals for being a guitar instructor at Gavilan College, South Valley Music Conservatory, and the Morgan Hill Adult Community School. Garcia was also on the faculty at the School of the Blues in San Jose and the Gilroy Music Academy. On October 30th there will be a “John Garcia Celebration Of Life” concert held at the Poorhouse Bistro from 6-9 p.m.
