August 12, 2016: Update: Soberanes Fire Grows/Air Quality

(08:00) Monterey – Cal Fire reported this morning that the Soberanes Fire grew overnight by 750 acres.  The fire is now 70,615 acres and is still 55 percent contained.  The fire continues to spread slowly toward the Big Sur area.  Cal Fire firefighters are saying there is a possibility Highway 1  in Big Sur will be shut down for 24-48 hours beginning today (Friday), while firefighters light and manage backfires in an effort to contain the Soberanes fire.  Monterey Bay Air Resources District said air quality as of 7 o’clock this morning was  “moderate” in Greenfield, Gonzales, Soledad, and King City, and “good” in all other reporting stations on the Central Coast.
