July 24,2016: Evacuations-Big Sur fire-Update II

(17:46)BIG SUR-The Monterey County Sheriff’s Department issued expanded mandatory evacuations, Sunday afternoon. Residents on Rocky Creek Road, Old Coast Road and Bixby Creek Road from Highway 1 south to Middle Road are required to evacuate immediately.Residents in the Rancho San Carlos, White Rock and San Rancho Clemente areas are being asked to prepare for evacuations in their areas. At this time, 1 home has been destroyed, and 16-hundred-and-50 others are threatened, by the Soberanes Fire that began Friday morning, east of Soberanes Creek. The wildfire has burned 65-hundred acres so far, and is only 5 percent contained. Evacuations began Friday night for residents near Palo Colorado and Weston Ridge Roads, as well as areas around Garrapata Creek. An evacuation center has been set up at  Carmel Middle School (which is located at 4380 carmel valley road. Residents of Carmel Highlands have been alerted to be prepared to evacuate if the order is issued. Anyone who is evacuated is encouraged to be prepared to take with them their pets, any medications and important documents, as well as family valuables.
