June 21, 2016: Nurses to Begin 2-Day Strike at Watsonville Community Hospital

(07:19) WATSONVILLE – Nurses at Watsonville Community Hospital will begin a two-day strike on Wednesday to protest worsening patient care standards and working conditions. The nurses argue that the hospital’s administrators have ignored and denied reports of unsafe patient care conditions, including understaffing. The protesters claim these practices are continuing, despite having reached a joint resolution with the city council in October 2015, demanding the corporate owners of the hospital take steps to improve working conditions. The strike is expected to begin at the hospital at 6:45 Wednesday morning and continue until 6:45 p.m. Thursday. A march and vigil for safe patient care standards will also take place on Wednesday at noon, starting at St. Patrick’s Church and ending at Watsonville City Plaza. (S.G.)
