June 17, 2016: Watsonville Police Conduct Minor Decoy Operation for New Age Minimum

(08:15) WATSONVILLE – Police conducted a minor decoy operation in Watsonville this week. The operation was launched to ensure businesses were complying with the new age minimum for tobacco sales. On June 9, the state’s minimum age to buy tobacco was raised from 18 to 21. The minor decoy was sent into 20 businesses to attempt to purchase tobacco. One store clerk, at East Lake Food and Liquors, was cited for selling cigarettes to the minor. (S.G.)
