May 31, 2016: Santa Cruz County Wildlife Expert Develops App

(08:56) SANTA CRUZ COUNTY – A local wildlife expert has developed an app that can be used to report injured animals. The app, called WildHelp, was created by Rebecca Dmytryk, the director of Wildlife Emergency Services based in Moss Landing. Individuals who spot a wounded animal can open the app, report the type of animal and its injuries, and upload a photo. The app will then automatically send an email and a text to the nearest wildlife responder. Over 700 wildlife rescue agencies are currently in the program’s database. The app can be downloaded for free through the Apple Store. (S.G.)
