April 29, 2016: Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office Warns Community About Counterfeit Vicodin

(06:55) SANTA CRUZ COUNTY – The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community about a counterfeit street drug. The drug is Fentanyl, an opioid pain reliever that is 80 to 100 times more potent than morphine and about 50 times stronger than heroin. The Fentanyl is being illegally sold to individuals as Hydrocodone or Vicodin. A man was recently found dead in Santa Clara County with a lethal level of Fentanyl in his system. Similar deaths have been recorded in Sacramento County. In response, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community against the use of medication that has not been obtained from a pharmacy. (S.G.)
