(18:16) APTOS – An election is taking place at Cabrillo College, that could impact public transportation in Santa Cruz county. Cabrillo College students have until Friday at noon, to vote on whether a 40 dollar-per-semester mandatory Santa Cruz Metro Bus Fee should be imposed on all students. The money generated by that fee could then be used by the student senate to “purchase” Metro Bus Service to Cabrillo. All students would also be given a metro bus pass, that would be valid 7-days a week, and would provide transfers to Monterey-Salinas Transit busses.
The upside? Right now a monthly Metro Buss Pass generally costs between 240 and 325 dollars
The downside? Only about 15 percent of Cabrillo students currently use the bus to get to and from school.
