February 9, 2016: SCC Supervisors Approve 2016 Housing Element

(20:10) SANTA CRUZ COUNTY – Santa Cruz County Supervisors unanimously approved a plan today, to create more than 13 hundred housing units in the county by the year 2023. The new Housing Element includes several objectives, such as diversifying the housing stock, encouraging accessory dwelling units (which are 640-square feet in size in urban areas, and 12- hundred square feet in rural areas). Officials also promoted mixed-use projects in the urban core, as well as creating walk-able communities there. The 13-hundred units are designed to house regular renters, and are not eligible as vacation rentals. About 40 percent of the renters of these housing units are expected to be low-income.
