February 3, 2016: Monterey Safe Parking Program for Homeless Approved

(07:27) MONTEREY – Monterey officials have approved an urgency ordinance aiming to help the homeless. The new policy establishes a Safe Parking Program that will allow homeless individuals to park their cars overnight on city-owned sites. In recent weeks, staff began evaluating parking lots that can be used for the program. So far, city officials have approved one city-owned lot on Pacific Avenue near the public library. Up to six vehicles will be allowed to park at the site between 7 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. (S.G.)
