October 8, 2015: Monterey County Phone Scam

(17:20) SALINAS- The Monterey County Sheriff’ Office is warning the public of a phone scam. Beginning on Tuesday the office started receiving reports of a subject identifying himself as an employee of the Monterey County Sheriff’ Office, using various names, but most recently identifying himself as Sergeant Henry Farley. During these telephone calls the subject advises those he is calling that they have outstanding warrants and that they can avoid being arrested if they will pay him a cash payout on bail. The Sheriff’ Office does not have a Sergeant Farley and does not conduct business by phone. Anyone who receives such calls is encouraged to contact the Monterey County Sheriff’ Department.
