September 30, 2015: California Recycling Company Penalized for Underpaying Consumers

(09:02) CALIFORNIA – A California recycling company has agreed to pay nearly $300,000 to resolve claims of underpaying consumers for recyclable materials. District Attorneys for Santa Cruz, Sonoma, Fresno and Contra Costa counties investigated Contain-A-Way, Inc. which operates recycling centers primarily outside local grocery stores. The investigation found that consumers were underpaid by the recycling center, as a result of inaccurate scales. Contain-A-Way has been ordered to pay penalties and implement new procedures for weighing recyclable materials. (S.G.)
