August 4, 2015: Property Owners Close Off Patio in Downtown Monterey

(09:33) MONTEREY – Property owners have fenced off a patio area in downtown Monterey following recent issues with transients. The fireplace patio at Peet’s Coffee became a space used primarily by homeless people after it opened in 2007.  Police were frequently called to the area following reports of assault, public intoxication, and petty theft. Most recently, officers responded to a report of a fight involving two men, a knife, and a dog. The incident prompted the property owners to fence off the area. The patio will likely be repurposed for commercial use. (S.G.)
