July 28, 2015: 16:00 Update: Teenage Boy Could Be Tried as Adult in Death of 8 year-old Madyson (Maddy) Middleton

UPDATE: 16:00 – SANTA CRUZ – The 15 year-old boy, who was arrested in connection with the murder of 8 year-old Maddy Middleton (who lived in the Tannery Arts Complex in Santa Cruz), could be tried as an adult. The teen reportedly lured the little girl into his apartment where he killed her. He then carried her body down to the recycle bin in the garage and concealed it there. The teen is being held in Santa Cruz County Juvenile Hall.

(Updated July 28 at 06:37) – SANTA CRUZ – A girl who went missing in Santa Cruz Sunday has been found dead. 8-year-old Madyson Middleton disappeared near the apartment complex at Tannery Arts Center on River Street shortly after 4 p.m. Her disappearance launched a collaborative response from multiple law enforcement agencies and the community assisted in search efforts county-wide. Shortly before 8 p.m. Monday night, officers found a body in a dumpster at the Tannery Arts Complex. Police believe the body is that of Madyson Middleton. A 15-year-old male suspect has been taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing.

(Posted July 27 at 06:35) SANTA CRUZ – Santa Cruz police are searching for a girl who went missing Sunday. 8-year-old Madyson Middleton was last seen near the apartment complex at Tannery Arts Center on River Street shortly after 4 p.m. She is about 4 feet tall, weighs 48 pounds, and has long brown hair and blue eyes. Madyson, who also goes by Maddy, was last seen wearing a purple dress and black leggings and riding her white Razor scooter. Anyone with information is urged to call 911 or contact Santa Cruz police.
