(19:22) MONTEREY- A pet cat in Monterey has tested positive for the bat strain of rabies. It is the first time in 30 years that a domesticated animal in the county has been diagnosed with bat rabies. However a dog tested positive for skunk rabies in 2012. The Health Department is reminding residents to make sure their pets are current on rabies vaccinations. And to keep pet food secure to discourage wild animals. Owners of larger livestock should consult a veterinarian about rabies prevention.
