July 7, 2015: Confirmed Case of Rabies in Monterey County

(08:22) MONTEREY COUNTY – Monterey County health officials are reminding residents to protect their pets from wildlife following a confirmed case of rabies. A pet cat recently tested positive for the disease in Monterey. The county’s health department is investigating to ensure that anyone exposed to the cat receives treatment to prevent rabies. In the meantime, residents are being urged to take steps to protect themselves and their pets from the disease. People should avoid contact with wildlife, particularly skunks and bats, and pet owners should make sure their cats or dogs are current on rabies vaccinations.
