July 6, 2015: CDPH Expands Advisory on Monterey Seafood Again

(07:04) MONTEREY BAY AREA – State health officials have updated their advisory for seafood sourced from the Monterey Bay. The California Department of Public Health warns that high levels of the neurotoxin domoic acid have been found in recreationally harvested mussels, clams, and crabs. Previously, the agency said the white meat of scallops was safe to consume. Now, the public is being asked to avoid eating both the internal organs and white meat of recreationally caught scallops. The advisory is now also asking consumers to avoid commercially harvested anchovies, crabs, and sardines. The warning does not apply to commercially sold clams, mussels, scallops or oysters.
