July 5, 2015: Electric Rates Rising

(16:14) BAY AREA- The California Public Utilities Commission unanimously approved a new rate structure for residential customers on Friday. The new structure is being criticized for raising rates for more efficient users while giving breaks to the higher energy consumers. Alternative energy and environmental advocates had supported a proposal rewarding efficient power use. The rate increases have gone up yearly since caps were lifted in 2013. By 2016 P, G & E customer rates will be up by 15.6 percent following the San Bruno explosion and subsequent mandated 5.25 billion dollars in power infrastructure upgrades.
