(11:01) MONTEREY COUNTY- Fire officials are investigating a series of wildfires that broke out along Highway 101 last week. The fires started erupting along the freeway, with the first call reporting a blaze near Soledad at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Six more fires were reported along the northbound lanes of Highway 101 between Gonzales and Prunedale. All of the fires were quickly contained by firefighters. At this time it is believed the fires may have been started by an object dragging from a vehicle.
