(Updated at 07:15) – A Salinas man has been arrested in the fatal shooting of homeless man in Watsonville. Earlier this month, 27-year-old Carlos Vasquez was found shot to death on the 900 block of Main Street near Ramsay Park. Investigators recently identified 32-year-old Luciano Acevedo as a suspect in Vasquez’s murder. Police were dispatched to Acevedo’s home on North Main Street in Salinas early Saturday morning. He was noncompliant and engaged officers in a five-hour standoff before being apprehended. (S.G.)
(Updated June 16 at 08:15) – Watsonville police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred Friday. 27-year-old Carlos Vasquez was shot to death around 2 p.m. on the 900 block of Main Street. A man in a dark green SUV was seen leaving the area after the shooting. The investigation is ongoing. (S.G.)

Authorities say the incident happened at about 2 p.m. near the 900 block of Main Street where a lone gunman shot a man described as a transient in his thirties, once in the chest. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, his name is being withheld pending notification of family. The shooter may have fled in a dark green SUV.
