May 24, 2015 Sudden Oak Death Meeting in C V

(23:28)  CARMEL VALLEY –  Many people turned out this weekend to learn how they might be able to help save California’s oak trees from Sudden Oak Death. Scientists from U.C.- Berkeley and U.C. – Davis held a meeting in Carmel Valley to teach volunteers how to go out on Data Blitz’s. Blitz volunteers were asked to collect bay leaves from trees infected with Sudden Oak Death, and also to use their smart phones to track the GPS locations of the disease. The hope is that with added information, scientists may be able to slow down, or halt, the spread of the disease (which has killed oak trees from Oregon down to Big Sur).
