Dozens of nurses gathered outside Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital last night to protest a proposed restructuring plan. The proposal would change the way nurses are distributed throughout the facility. Hospital officials say the plan would improve patient care by minimizing transport of patients and providing special training for nurses. Those protesting the plan believe it will take nurses away from patients. A report is expected to be released next week which will offer recommendations for both sides. The hospital and the California Nurses Association will meet Monday to continue negotiations.
