The Salinas Fire Department is in the process of rebuilding. The department which has been understaffed due to recession based city budget cuts is seeking community oriented recruits. In February graduated cadets from its 1st academy in three years, and has another academy underway with three more in the future. The additions to the Fire Department are being made possible by federal grants and Measure G.
